About Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the insertion of very fine needles in specific points on the body. This sends a message through the nervous system to the brain which in turn releases neurotransmitters, or brain chemicals, which can have a pain relieving and generally relaxing effect.

Acupuncture is the oldest continually practiced medicine in the world. It has been in use for over 3,000 years. Currently it serves over a billion people globally and more people have been treated successfully with acupuncture than with all other health care modalities combined.

You do not have to believe in acupuncture in order for it to work for you. Acupuncture is used successfully on cats, dogs, horses and other animals. However, a positive attitude toward wellness may reinforce the effects of the treatment, just as a negative attitude can hinder the effect of any medical therapy.

About Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM)
The Shān Dào Acupuncture Clinic is pleased to introduce FSM therapy. This non-invasive therapy is designed to treat acute and chronic pain, reduce inflammation, aid in injury recovery and improve immune system function.

FSM uses a “resonance” effect to target specific areas of the body that need healing. This resonance is created by the frequency specific microcurrent and the targeted area. It is similar to your key fob only unlocking your car in a parking lot full of cars.

The microcurrent frequencies are specific to a tissue type such as nerve, muscle, tendon, ligament and internal organs. Once the cause of pain is correctly identified, the specific frequency will regenerate cell function to begin the healing process.

This therapy does not involve the placement of acupuncture needles. It is painless and generally very relaxing. The microcurrent is the same amount of current your cells produces naturally. It is similar in appearance to a TENS unit, however a TENS unit uses much higher current and can cause muscle contraction.

Water is an important conductor of the current and since your body is 70% water it is important to be well hydrated before your appointment. It is recommended that you drink 1-2 quarts of water 1-2 hours before your appointment.
